ABOUT US

The RUSSIAN AMERICAN SCHOOL is a program for children and adults to maintain and continue learning or beginning Russian. Our goal is to preserve the Russian language, heritage and identity. We offer intercultural classes for children and adults who are new to Russian culture and language. If your children still speak some Russian, we will help maintain their verbal and writing skills through reading, writing, conversation, singing, art, music and games. Russian American School will help your children to keep the culture of their birth country.

We are a non-profit organization committed to the preservation of the Russian languange and heritage. The Russian American School is not affiliated with any particular religious denomination and invites everyone who is interested in learning or preserving Russian.

Russian American School provides evening classes for children and adults who speak Russian as well as those who are new to Russian. Classes meet weekly.

The program includes story telling, games, drawing, developmental games and educational projects. The class is divided into two sessions: vocabulary lesson and a music lesson. The first part engages in the developmental games, the students become familiar with Russian language vocabulary and Russian culture. During music part of the lesson, students engage in learning and singing Russian songs and participating in performaces, which will helps to enhance and maintain the Russian Language. Students will also participate in Russian-Ameican School children's concerts. The class is filling up fast so new class is developing for the same time on Tuesday. Please contact us if you are interested in lessons on Tuesday.

AGE 5-8 BEGINNERS
The program oriented on developing, maintaining, and saving ability to speak Russian language, studying Russian literature, learning the basics of grammer and writing skills. Theater performing, games, storytelling, and recital, singing and acting out songs. Kids will learn about Russian culture and enhance Russian Language vocabulary. Students who do well move up an age group to an intermediate class within a year. A new beginner's class is developing on Tuesday from 5:00pm-6:00pm. Please inquire if you would like to join the new class.

The program oriented on developing, maintaining, and saving ability to speak Russian language, studying Russian literature, learning the basics of grammer and writing skills. Kids will learn about Russian culture and enhance Russian Language vocabulary and conversational skills while working on variety of projects based on traditions in Russian crafts and arts.

AGE 6-12
The program is oriented on developing, maintaining, and improving the ability to speak Russian language fluently, studying Russian literature, learning grammar and writing skills, using Russian textbooks of appropriate level. Students will learn about Russian culture and traditions which will help to enhance Russian Language vocabulary and conversational skills while working on variety of projects based on traditions in Russian crafts and arts. Learning and singing Russian songs during music part of the lesson and participating in school concerts will also help to maintain and enhance the overall learning.

AGE 8-12
The program is oriented on developing, maintaining, and improving the ability to speak Russian language fluently, studying Russian literature, learning grammar and writing skills, using Russian school-grade textbooks of appropriate level. Students learn about Russian culture and traditions which will help to enhance Russian Language vocabulary and conversational skills while working on variety of projects based on Russian crafts and arts. Learning and singing Russian songs during music part of the lesson and participating in school concerts will also help to maintain and enhance the overall learning. This group is divided in two sections based on ability and while one group studies grammar and writing skills for one hour, the other group engages in art, crafts and music. Both segments last one hour.

ART STUDIO SHTRIH
In addition to the arts and crafts explored in the children's Russian language classes, Studio Shtrih provides a deeper exploration of drawing, painting, applique, compositional strategies, hand-building, sculpting and personal expression that are based on Russian arts and crafts. Instruction is in Russian and technique is provided in three different levels; ages 3-5, ages 6-12 and adult. Some materials will be provided, please supply your own materials upon instruction. Each Studio meets weekly. Adult Art Studio and Art Studio for ages 5-6 are developing. Contact us if interested - all art and Russian evels are welcome, classes are instructed in English and Russian.

THEATER STUDIO MOZAIKA
The current studio is working on a play and will have a show this upcoming spring. Drama, singing, piano, costumes, plays.. More info coming soon!Adult Theater Studio and Theater Studio for new students ages 6-8 are developing. The date and time is flexible, let us know if you are interested.

CLASSES

Russian American School classes meet weekly or bi-weekly. Each of our language classes consists of two segments. Russian Language and Literature: learning through language lessons, reading, writing, games, storytelling and songs and Russian Arts and Crafts: building vocabulary and enhancing conversational skills while working on various traditional Russian creative projects. Most of our language-class students also attend either or both Art Studio "Shtrih" and Theater Studio "Mozaika" meet weekly.

A one-time $10 fee applies to all new students.

OUR FOUNDER AND TEACHERS

Ekaterina Anokhina
was born in St. Petersburg Russia but has lived in the United states for over 15 years. She has studied and taught English as a second language (ESL) for over 20 years. In 2004, Ekaterina founded and opened the Russian American School in Saint Louis to maintain and teach Russian language, literature, culture, art and crafts. She has also spent 2 years studying art, 5 years in art studio and 8 years in small-business management in St. Louis.

Ekaterina Anokhina is the lead instuctor for all language and art classes.
